Characteristic features

The following figures and text are meant to give a short overview, briefly discussing two features you will not find in most other data repositories, data warehouses or analysis packages: For a thorough exposition, please have a look at our publications and schema.

M-CHiPS is a data warehouse rather than a mere repository. While both may be implemented as a relational database, the fundamental difference lies in what they are made for. Repositories are meant to store data, data warehouses serve analysis. For the latter, it is convenient to learn about analysis first before thinking about a supporting storage structure.
