M-CHiPS is a data warehouse rather than a mere
repository. While both may be implemented as a relational database, the
fundamental difference lies in what they are made for. Repositories are
meant to store data, data warehouses serve analysis. For the latter, it is
convenient to learn about analysis first before thinking about a supporting
storage structure.
